2020 has been a difficult year for many of us, and none more so than Sarah Cosgrove, aka Low Girl who lost a close family member to Covid during the first outbreak. We all try to make sense of tragic moments in our lives in different ways, and for Sarah it was to turn to the keyboards and put her pain into words, creating an emotional and beautiful tribute to the person she lost.
Starting with simple keyboard chords, the song slowly builds an ominous quality as Sarah’s melancholy voice, reminiscent of Angel Olsen, comes in. Supported with some beautiful yet haunting backing vocals and you can hear the raw, and real sadness within every word. This is only amplified as the violin builds additional tension within the song as Sarah sings ‘It’s easier to hold out hope Than to accept you might not be coming home’, a sentiment many of us have felt, yet have been unable to voice in such an eloquent and beautiful way.
