I last saw The Pineapple Thief live was back in 2013 at The Garage, London. Since then fate has conspired against me in seeing them live again. Until now. And boy, did they perform! The band took to the stage under muted blue lights before kicking the night off with Versions of the Truth – and I have to say, the whole band was on fire – Bruce’s vocals were stunningly beautiful with that melancholic tone he has to his voice and new touring guitarist Beren Matthews bought fantastic energy to the whole show. For me, the band didn’t put a step wrong all night and finished up with the first Pineapple Thief song I heard and made me an avid fan – Nothing at Best. Not only is it one of the best album openers ever, it was also the perfect way to end an amazing night of alternative and progressive rock.
